Week #8 and Week #9

So, the last two weeks have been very eventful for Christian. Last week he got food poisoning, and got so sick that he lost 5 pounds, and then right after, he got the flu so he was sick for a while! He got well just in time to fly away.   He had to say bye to a couple close friends he made at the MTC, like Elder Nielson.  He was ready to leave though he said. Well, he finally got what he wanted, and he is in Lima Peru, teaching real investigators.  He flew out January 7th, so it has only been one day.  He has a companion right now named Elder Delgado.  Right now, everything is just getting figured out, but I will be able to give more detail later.  For now, I just wanted to post the last pictures of the MTC he had sent. He took pictures with his favorite teachers and also of the snow fort, which he made sure to say he was "extremely proud of." Also, the first family he went to after being in Peru was able to give me a picture of him when he arrived in Lima when they went to eat, so I will post that as well.

This is Hermano Purnell, another one of Christian's teachers who he really liked.
This is Hermano Galves, who was Christian's favorite MTC teacher.  He said "Brother Galves is so amazing.  He inspires me so much and he is a great teacher."

Week #7

Christian is doing well! He says that everything is the same there, and the routine stays the same, so there isn't much new news.  Christmas was good there, and he misses everyone.  He is excited to leave, because his Visa finally came! He leaves for Peru January 7th, and will skip the Peru MTC, because he will have done the whole 9 weeks in Provo.  He said that he cannot wait to get out there, and the MTC is feeling really repetitive.  He also ran into an Elder from Nevada and sent pictures this week.

Week 5 and Week 6!

Christian is still in the Provo MTC! He is still the zone leader, and he is waiting on his Visa.  He is getting very anxious to get out and teach real people, and have a new environment.  If his Visa is not here in the next 3 weeks, then he will be put into a mission in the States, until his Visa is approved and he can go to Peru.
"My Spanish is still getting better, but I am still the worst in my class!  I am so ready to get out of here.  I love the spirit though.  I switched companions this week multiple times.  Elder Moody wasn't told about his flight out, so we got woken up to a knock on the door at like 3 am, and he had to get ready super fast and leave, so since then I have been assigned to multiple different companions.  Now my companion is leaving for Mexico, and I am getting a new one.  He is one of the people who I dumped snow on while they were in the bathroom, so I don't think he likes me that much, so we will see how it goes!  I miss everyone though, but I am happy here and it is a good place to be!"

Week #4

Christian has been out a month today! He is still waiting on his Visa, so for a while longer, he will be at the Provo MTC.  He will not be able to receive packages in the Peruvian MTC, so if anyone needs to send anything or wants to for Christmas, then sending it sooner would be the best!

"I am used to it here now, so I am not upset about being stuck here.  But, I really just want to be able to leave and teach real people so badly I can't even tell you.  I don't know when I am even leaving though, it is all still up in the air.  I keep getting better at spanish I work so hard studying it.  I had a really cool experience this week, because we were listening to a talk, and I understood all of it without even trying, and then after my companion was talking about how we have to understand everything in Spanish, and I realized the talk was in Spanish.  I didn't believe him, but he was right, and I had understood it all.  I thought that was pretty sweet!  Also, I was praying that I will be able to know what to do to help the men in my zone, since I am the zone leader, and right when I was done praying, I looked at the ground and one of the men in my zone's nametag was on the ground.  It was a small thing, but I was able to give it to him, so he didn't stress about finding it.  It just seemed like a reaffirmation that I am where I am supposed to be, if that makes sense.  I love the spirit that is here so much. Even though I understood the talk in Spanish, I still can't speak it that well, but It is getting there!"

Week #3

Christian is doing great! "My visa got delayed.  Actually most of the people in my district have had their visa's delayed.  So, I won't know for a while what exactly is happening, but I will most likely end up here for the next 9 weeks, instead of switching to the Peru MTC, and then there is a chance that I will have to be temporarily reassigned to the States until my Visa is ready.  My spanish is getting a lot better.  I can understand most everything that people say to me, but I still have a hard time speaking back.  We had to teach a lesson this week in Spanish and my companion spoke most of the time because I could only really pray and bear my testimony in spanish.  It is really frustrating.  My companion sprained his ankle, so I have to carry him up a lot of stairs! It is so busy here I hardly have any time to write! I have had some cool experiences lately though with teaching the fake investigators.  I really cannot wait until I can teach real people."

Week #2

"I got called as the zone leader!!! Which is pretty cool because we are the youngest district in the zone so it is really weird that I got called on my second week here with such little experience.  I do like it here alright, but I am really ready to leave! I want to teach real people.  I have had a hard time this week with spanish, but is is getting better I guess!"

Week #1

Christian got to the MTC great, and he is loving it! He is super busy, so he has not really had time to write, but he did say that his companion is named Elder Mardy, and he is from Georgia.  They are both going to Lima North, and they are the only two in the MTC right now going to that mission, so it is sweet that they are paired together.  "The spirit is so strong here."
However, even though he has a name tag he still hasn't changed that much because he got in trouble for pouring a bucket full of ice on the district leader while he was in the shower! Once he gets more time he is going to tell me what to post on here, but as of now that is my update!

The Calling

I have been called to serve as a spanish speaking missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Lima Peru North Mission.  I will serve for two years, starting on November 7th 2012.
